Last weekend Scott and I were fortunate to be a part of a home build with Habitat Young Professionals of Nashville. It truly was a great experience to work side by side with the future homeowners. Seeing how appreciative they were for everyone that participated, made all the hard work worth it.
The volunteers on this day were tasked with putting up the siding on the house. Me with a nail gun is a pretty scary sight! Also, I will admit, the first few measurements we made were apparently not the best. We learned quickly that when putting up siding, it expands and contracts depending on the weather. So after we made our measurements for the cut, we then had to take off an additional ¼ inch to account for the natural movement of the boards.
For those who have never had a chance to do a build with Habitat for Humanity, I highly recommend it. You will get as much out of it as the people you are helping. Also we would like to give a special thanks to Grant Ellis and Patrick Crider for inviting us to the event. If you are interested in future projects, please let me know and I will get you in touch with them.
